English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsement

Overview

This program equips teachers with the knowledge and skills to effectively teach English Learners (ELs) in mainstream and English as a Second Language (ESL) classroom contexts. The program provides comprehensive instruction specific to ELs in today’s classrooms and schools, including second language acquisition theories and research, effective and innovative methods of instruction and assessment, and comprehensive knowledge about language, language policy, and more. Designed specifically for in-service educators, the program blends professional learning with 50% online with classroom-based applications and collaboration.

Cohorts

Cohorts are available at the Water Tower Campus starting every Fall (late August) term. This cohort program is available to Chicago Public School teachers and Catholic school teachers with a tuition discount.

A cohort is also available at the Cuneo Mansion Campus in Vernon Hills starting Summer 2017 (mid-May) term. This cohort program has a tuition discount. Additionally, those teachers working in one of the partner districts qualify for additional funding through a CPELL grant.
